State officials and the security personnel monitoring the official tour of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy were tense as the copter the CM was travelling by lost contact for some time due to smoggy weather and a technical snag.

The alert officials pressed the panic buttons and deployed four Army choppers to search the forests of Kurnool district from where it was believed to have lost contact and disappeared. While three helicopters were brought in from Bangalore, another was drafted from Hyderabad.

The police stations in Kurnool district were put on high alert. The District Collector of Chittoor and other top officials frantically tried to establish contact with the Chief Minister's aides accompanying him. After leaving Kurnool at 8.30 a.m, the CM's helicopter went off the radar screen due to heavy rain while on its way to Chittoor from Kurnool. The Chief Minister’s chopper took off at Begumpet airport at 8.40 a.m, along with his secretary Mr Subramani and chief security officer Mr Wesley besides two pilots.
