Politics too complex for Big B

"Many ask me why I joined politics and then why I left it. I joined it because I was asked to and left because I was inadequate for the job," Bachchan posted on his blog www.bigb.bigadda.com.The sexagenarian came into politics at the behest of good friend and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. He contested the Lok Sabha election from his native Allahabad in 1984. Though he won by a huge majority, Bachchan failed to make his mark as a politician. He says it's a tough job to be a politician and admires those who have managed to stay put in it."Politics is a complicated world - a world where if you are unable to play the game, you would remain a novice and a stranger eternally. I admire those who have remained in it for long years. Admire the guile with which they steer their boats everyday, every minute. The ease with which they make associations and break them, reject foes and months later embrace them as dearest friends. It is a tough job."A job that I would never be able to do. I would never recommend it to anyone. But I do know that those that pursue this line, do so with utmost dedication and passion. Their dedication and passion is admirable," he said.Bachchan is currently in Singapore with his politician friend Amar Singh. The Samajwadi Party leader had undergone a kidney transplant there recently.

Priyamani is Abhishek's Sister

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 4:30 PM

There are two theories doing the rounds. One is that filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s writers reportedly goofed. When they gave Mani a copy of the script of Raavana, a contemporary adaptation of the Ramayana, with Tamil superstar Vikram playing Ram, Aishwarya Rai playing Sita and Abhishek Bachchan playing Raavan, they forgot to include the very important character of Shoorpanakha. Shoorpanakha, who is Raavan’s sister, whose nose is chopped off by Ram in the forest according to folklore and because of which episode Raavan swears revenge on Ram. Now, Shoorpanakha is pivotal to the plot... could Mani’s writing team actually have over looked this detail? Seems improbable because Mani is known for his precision.A source from the South says Mani’s production team approached the current reigning diva Nayantara for the role of Shoorpanakha but she refused. Next they approached National Award-winner Priya Mani. Priya will play Shoorpanakha in the Tamil and Hindi versions, just like Aishwarya is playing Sita in both versions. Theory two on why many top Bollywood heroines who were approached for the role of Shoorpanakha refused it is because “no one wants to play Abhishek’s sister,” says a source. “Abhishek is a dishy actor, and not many actresses want to ruin their chances of being paired romantically opposite him by playing his sister in Raavana,” the source adds. Girls who refused to be cast as Abhishek's sister should recall Josh where Ash played Shah Rukh Khan sister, but she still romanced him very convincingly in Mohabbatein. After all it is just role play.

Ramcharan is a down-to-earth person:Dev Gill

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 8:27 AM

After Sonu Sood in Arundhati, the latest villain hogging the limelight in Tollywood is Mumbai’s Dev Gill.

The actor who’s being talked about for his performance in Magadheera.

Gill who has played a small role in The Legend of Bhagat Singh and some commercials, made his debut last year with Mohan Babu’s film Krishnarjuna. “When I walked in for the premiere, nobody noticed me. After the film got over, many of them walked up to me, shook hands with me and told me they appreciated my work,” says an excited Gill, who happens to be a fitness freak and owns a chain of fitness salons along with a restaurant in Pune.

So, how was it working with Ram Charan? “He is a down-to-earth person with no starry tantrums. Actors like SRK, Aamir and other actors have a huge fan following in Mumbai, but the audience scarcely go gaga over their heroes the way people here do. I was surprised to see the fans’ reactions every time Charan appeared on the screen. I’ve never seen anything like this before.”

'Chiru playing double game'

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 8:25 AM

Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi is playing a double game in strongly attacking the Telugu Desam party president N Chandrababu Naidu, while refraining from criticising the Congress in the K-G basin gas issue.

This was stated by TDP politburo member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu. Taking objections to Chiranjeevi’s comment that Naidu had no vision in the gas exploration and that he had failed to demand for the state's share in gas exploration in K-G basin, Yanamala said the PRP president had no proper understanding on the issue.

He said during the TD regime the exploration of gas in KG basin had just begun and so, the question of demanding for state's royalty did not arise then. More over, the TD demanded the companies involved in exploring gas for state's share and an agreement to that affect was also entered in 2000.

Referring to Chiranjeevi's demand for allocation of 50 per cent share for the state in the gas being explored in KG basin, the TD leader questioned the very knowledge of the PRP president on the issue and asked with what criteria he was making such demand.

He found fault with Chiranjeevi for being highly critical of the TDP while failing to expose the failures of the Congress on the issue.

No Small Screen Release for 150 Films!

Telugu TV channels are not coming forward to buy ‘satellite’ rights of the new films. Almost 150 such films are lying unsold now. Usually the filmmakers get not Rs 30 to Rs 40 Lakhs a film.

This will facilitate the producers to meet their last round of expenditure, say, paying the bills of the labs and print charges. After exhausting every pie, small time producers look for this money.

But the channels, which are running into losses, are content with the films they have already bought. They are transmitting the same old films again and again observing the birth days of the heroes.

'Script Ready-Hero Ready- I Want Producer'

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 1:20 PM

There was a time when movie making was meant to be an art and only those who possessed the real flair and heart for it went for it. But now, all that has become a farce and the name of the game is money and films have become a sort of career line for a few.
It seems that many have been emerging into the industry stating that they have got a good script and also the cast but all they need is a producer with money. Apparently, these chaps are said to be grouping few known people and terming their friends as hero/heroine etc.
It is also being said that few of them happen to be software engineers and they are posing to arrive with a ready team. This is said to have been causing a bit of irk amongst the film folks and they are hoping this trend ends quickly. They are feeling that the essence of movie as an art is fading with such individuals.

Burqa battle erupts in city college

When Y Annapurna, the principal of Vani College in Mehdipatnam asked her students to stick to the college dress code of Salwar Kameez, little did she realize that her act will lead to a path of religious conflict? Before anyone could react, she had 300 strong crowd staging a dharna outside her college and shouting slogans against her acts on minorities. But Annapuna has an interesting take on this. She said the whole row was motivated by a few students who were scolded by her for coming late.

She said she did not make any remarks for or against the burqa. But a student Nadima Rehman says that “The principal’s attitude upset us and hence we decided to take help from our parents.’ Regarding the late coming the students said that they were getting delayed because of "Ramzan" and they had to offer namaz before coming to college. They said the college should not object to religious practices. “The college authorities blame us saying we are spending more time in the mosque than with books. This is objectionable,’’ a student added. The principal on her part maintains that she is the victim of a few conspirators who are whipping up religious sentiments unnecessarily.

Nagarjuna celebrated his 50th birthday on Saturday, which was the hot favourite for the Telugu channels. He also gave interviews to a couple of channels along with his son. In one such interview, Nagarjuna said his son, Naga Chaitanya, would have his own identity.

People have asked me to do remake of some of my father's films. There were offers for me to do Devadas and other movies. But I said no to such offers as that would give a scope for the people to compare. I can't be compared with my father. Likewise, my son can't be compared with me, he said.

The Tollywood is now looking at the new film Josh in which Naga Chaitanya is making his acting debut. The film is set for release on September 3 and there are higher hopes on the film after the super success of Chiranjeevi's son, Ram Charan Tej movie, Magadheera.

Whether Nagarjuna likes comparisions or not, people are set to do that bit comparing Naga Chaitanya with Ram Charan.

Actress Priyanka Chopra’s parents made a wrought iron cage to keep her safe from stalkers

Priyanka speaks of being put behind a cage in her own home in Bareilly after returning from studying in the US and winning May Queen! She was followed everywhere by admirers and fans in Bareilly even before she made it big in Bollywood! She recollects how one day, a boy came up to the top floor of her house where she used to sleep. “I didn’t know him and he jumped from the terrace to my balcony window.. He was staring at me through the window and I didn’t know him.. I was absolutely frightened and told my dad, ‘Papa mere kamre mein koi aa gaya hai, koi khatkhata raha hai.” The very next day, my parents got the entire house and my bed covered with iron rods like a cage so much so that if there was a fire, we would have all burnt to death since there was just no escape route!”

I’m not getting married: Sharmila

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 6:31 PM

It was a filmi event, as they had come to talk about the film (Samantar) they did together after many, many years. Ab woh saari baatein ho gayi, toh they settled down for a one-to-one with the media.

In a flash, most of those present zeroed in on Sharmila. After all, she is Saif’s mummy na... Kareena’s hone waali saas. And bang on, after a couple of prefunctory questions, someone asked her if Saif would marry Kareena and if so, when. Sharmila looked nonplussed for a second, and then dimpled up. “Why does everyone keep asking me this question?” she asked those present. And though she looked a tad angry, she hastened to add, “My kids – all of them – are grown up to be able to speak for themselves. They are successful, know how to handle fame well, and are doing great. I am sure they can answer this question much better than I can. So go and ask them,” she said. And cut off any further questions with, “I can answer for myself, though. And let me assure you, I am not getting married for sure.” It made everyone laugh. Smart Sharmila!

No one asked her a single question related to Saif after that... Shows there’s still something very cool about old-world charm, right?

In Sonu Sood’s shoes

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 6:31 PM

In an exclusive interview to NDTV's Sonia Singh on the show 'Your Call', Southern superstar Kamal Haasan has ruled out entering politics.

He said," I am political but I am not a politician, I have very strong political views in my films...the only time I will come into politics is when we, the people are very, very angry... when I have to carry a gun..."

He also broke his silence on his earlier marriages to dancer Vani and actress Sarika. He said I "... do silly things to please people I love, like marriage...it was a compromise I made, the price I had to pay for being with the women I love".

When asked why he decided to get married to Sarika, after the birth of his two children, he added "to get a hotel room was difficult", saying she's the mother of my child is not enough... they asked for my MRS, for me it stands for mistress. I think marriage is failing as an institution; the strongest holding institution is family."

He also commented for the first time on why his daughters Shruti and Akshara are not in touch with their mother, Sarika.

He said "It is Sarika's decision not to be in touch with her children and probably theirs. I have an equipoise position. They don't want to be with her, I facilitate that. They're adults, they can vote and take their own decisions."

Girl stripped in class by teacher

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 6:24 PM

A nine-year-old girl was stripped in front of her classmates by her teacher in a Faridabad school on Friday afternoon over alleged non-payment of fees.

The girl (name withheld) is a Class III student of Faridabad Model School, Sector-31.

The girl's father, Mukesh Pawar, said the family has been exempted by district administration from paying fees based on the quota for the economically deprived — Pawar is an autorickshaw driver.

Mother Sarita Pawar said the child returned home on Friday afternoon and said her teacher, one Nitu, told her in class that she had not paid the fees. When the girl said she would ask her parents about it, the teacher allegedly stripped her in front of the class, according to Sarita Pawar.

Pawar, a cashier with the school parents' association, said the teacher then asked her classmates to humiliate the girl, and stopped only after she started crying.

School chairman H S Malik said he had no information about the incident. "We will look into the matter," he said, "and anyone found guilty will be punished."

Pawar said the school has been "harassing" the family over payment of fees for long. "We brought up this issue in a letter to Faridabad Additional Deputy Commissioner V S Hooda and sought a fee exemption," Pawar said. Hooda, she said, wrote to the school and directed it to exempt the family from paying fees. "Since I am an active member with the parents association, school authorities have been threatening me for a long time," Pawar said.

As the news spread, several parents gathered in front of the school and shouted slogans — with no school official present to take note of their case, they moved to Sector-31 police station. "We have filed a written complaint," Mukesh Pawar said, "and police officials said they will investigate the matter on Saturday."

Faridabad Police Commissioner P K Aggarwal said, "I have asked DCP (Central) look into it. We will register a case under the relevant section of IPC and ensure action if anyone is found guilty."

Miffed about unflattering comments about her role by her co-star, Rambha refused to promote Quick Gun Murugun with him

Rajendra Prasad and Rambha, the lead actors of Quick Gun Murugun, which released today, no longer see eye-to-eye. The actress is miffed by his comments in a newspaper in the south where he claimed that she has a miniscule role as a bar dancer. Her annoyance was evident as the lead actors did not promote their film together. Rajendra plays the title role of Quick Gun Murugun while Rambha plays his love interest, Mango Dolly.

Yesterday, Rambha was in Mumbai to promote the film but Rajendra was nowhere to be seen. A source says, “Rambha had made doubly sure that Rajendra is not around. She had categorically stated that if the makers force her to promote the film with him, she would leave town at once.”

Rambha said, “I have not refused to promote the film with Rajendra. But yes, I did ask director Shashank Ghosh about Rajendra’s statement. Rajendra has said that I play a bar dancer but that’s not true. He has also said that I have a miniscule role but the audience will soon know that’s not true either. I don’t want to say anything more.

Namitha about her action role!!!

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 6:23 PM

Indian cinema has been going through some drastic changes for some time now. One of the changes seems to be the roles of our heroines. From just regular glam dolls, the heroines are turning into action queens. The latest to join the band seems to the voluptuous beauty Namitha. She is playing the role of a cop in “Desadrohi” in which she is expected to be seen a lot slimmer.

According to sources, she is also doing stunts in the movie without any body double. Saying that she is aware of Vijayashanthi’s roles, she added that she will be satisfied if she is able to give at least 10% of her performance.

Is the film releasing on Gandhi Jayanthi?

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 6:22 PM

Prem Rakshit has a mask (swine flu scare?) and is audible enough with the mike, he asks for a few retakes. Charmme has very very short hair, looks really charming and Srikanth with his twirled mouch has lost lot of weight and looks younger than his age. Ram Jagan is supposed to be playing the Mahatma.

Is the film releasing on Gandhi Jayanthi? Krishna Vamshi beams, he's not telling. While the song is on, Uttej interrupts, he snatches the mike from Prem Rakshit, the choreographer and announces that Charmme has lost her gold ring and anyone who finds it will be rewarded with Rs. 5000. Charmme is seen correcting Uttej, she says she never spoke about money and Uttej smirks. Uttej cracks another joke..amidst all the lively atmosphere the shot is okayed, and Srikanth steps out in his leather clothing from the studio to get a whiff of fresh air
