YSR's successor episode comes to an end
Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 10:15 AM
With the seven-day mourning period ending Wednesday, hectic efforts are on in both New Delhi and Hyderabad to pick a new chief minister.
Political activity aimed at finding a successor to late Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy reached a climax Thursday with Congress legislators rushing here anticipating a meeting to elect a new leader.
The legislators started arriving here on the direction of ministers in charge of their respective districts who are confident that the Congress will name YSR's 37 year old son and Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy the post of next chief minister.
The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting is likely to be held in a few days to elect the new leader. YSR loyalists claim to have the support of 152 out of 154 assembly members to make Jagan the chief minister.
Party sources said the CLP meeting would elect Jagan as the leader in the presence of party's central observers, who would then convey the choice to party president Sonia Gandhi for a formal announcement.
The sources have not ruled out the possibility of the CLP authorising Sonia Gandhi to take a decision after getting a firm assurance that Jagan would be named the leader.
This way, no one would feel that the central leadership had to bow to pressure from YSR loyalists.

YS Jagan sending split signals!
Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 10:13 AM
Despite a series of parleys between the Congress high command and supporters of Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy in the last two days, there is no solution in sight to the succession tangle in Andhra Pradesh with both camps refusing to blink.
The party's offer to induct Jagan into the Union Cabinet has not enthused the Kadapa MP even as his supporters are still canvassing for his elevation as CM. Some of his supporters are planning statewide agitation to put pressure on the high command.
There are also rumours that Jagan, who is counting the support of roughly 120 MLAs, may split the Congress, form a regional party and form the government with the support of Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) led by Chiranjeevi and the MIM. The PRP has 18 MLAs and the MIM has eight. Majority mark is 147 in the 294-member House.

While things have not been that good on the political and morale front of the state, the film front seems to be doing okay now. The credit for that goes to the magnum opus ‘Magadheera’ and as per the latest reports, the film is all set to create history that will take ages to be broken.
Apparently, ‘Magadheera’ is said to be on its way to cross the Rs 65 crores mark in collections and this would make it the first film in south India to come up with such huge numbers. Also, the film will then stand next to the Bollywood blockbuster ‘Ghajini’ in terms of the largest collections ever made.
The Naizam area stands first with its contribution followed by Ceded area and there has been a good collection from Karnataka and US as well for this movie. All this has happened in just the first five weeks and only time will tell what more records this blockbuster will break.

Speaking to the media persons in Chennai, Rahul said that actor Vijay is welcome to the Congress but since he has crossed over 35 years of age he may not find a place in the youth congress.
There were strong speculations that Vijay is considering to join the Congress party when he met Rahul in Delhi a few days ago. Jagan has leadership qualities: Rahul Gandhi
Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 10:11 AM
Talking to media persons in Chennai after completing his three days visit on Thursday, Rahul Gandhi said that he is not seeing Jaganmohan Reddy as Chief Minister’s son. Rahul said that he would not consider Jagan as an ordinary leader but he has many credits to his success in political career. He said that Jagan has occupied special position in the hearts of Andhra people, particularly in Rayalaseema region.
Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress High Command will take a positive decision on successor of chief minister in Andhra Pradesh very soon. He said that the high command is seeking more information from party leaders by summoning them to New Delhi.
As the decision is yet to be taken by high command, it is not right time to comment on the successor issue, he said. He assured the youth that there would be no place for money, power or influence in the Congress hereafter. Leaders would be elected from among the youth and anyone could contest organisational elections. Rahul underscored the need to harness the energy of the youth, and said the Youth Congress had embarked on such an endeavour.
US satellite first spotted YSR chopper crash site

The US satellite identified the site based on the missing cordinates provided by the BSNL, they said.
The US satellite imagery, that contained more than 12,000 pictures, was thoroughly analysed by the authorities in the US and the analysis was passed on to only top officials of the state administration.
"Six images clearly showed gaping holes in the clouds over the Pavuralagutta area where the helicopter had crashed. The search operation was initially spread over a 60 sq km area and later cut down to 20 sq km based on the US data. Ulitimately, the search was narrowed down to five sq km", the sources said.
Will Congress high command dictate terms?
Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 10:10 AM
The high command used to have control over the State units and the major decisions, including the selection of the PCC presidents and Chief Ministers are decided at the whims and fancies of the high command. The high command used to fill the top posts in every State and leaders in Delhi would be having total control over the party affairs.
It was for this reason late N T Rama Rao used to blame the Congress for mortgaging the State interests in Delhi.
However, things took a new turn with the emergence of Dr Rajasekhar Reddy as the powerful leader. He started to command things and even dictate terms to the high command. Except the election of K V P Ramachandra Rao to the Rajya Sabha, (which was differed six times) Dr Rajasekhar Reddy’s word carried weight in Delhi.
The sudden death of Dr Rajasekhar Reddy had come as a shot in the arm for the high command to take things into its control. It is for this reason the issue of succession became controversial with Delhi lobbies entertaining different voices.
If the high command starts dominating the State affairs, it would be a death blow to the party in the State as it was proved in 1980s and 1990s.

Will Venkatesh's New Film 'Ganga' Work Out?
Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 10:04 AM
Victory Venkatesh has been one star who is known for his penchant to come up with variety roles as much as possible. While most of the time, he has proved his mettle in family entertainers, he has also flexed his muscles in action treats like ‘Gharshana’ ‘Thulasi’ etc.
Now, there is news that Venky’s next venture would be ‘Ganga’ and this would be hitting the floors as soon as the film ‘Eenadu’ hits the screens. ‘Ganga’ is being directed by choreographer Amma Rajasekhar and Venky is said to be seen in a completely rugged role befitting the mass audience.
Though it has been a while since Venky has done such roles, the question amongst many is whether ‘Ganga’ will really appeal to the audience. Amma Rajasekhar has got a track record of disasters so it will be a challenge and interesting to see how ‘Ganga’ will flow.
