Now, with the increase in the theaters, across the counter ticket sales are happening which has helped the family audiences in a big way. Never before has any movie increased its theatres in such a large manner and that too after so many days of its release.

EC says NO to ban "Rail Engine" Symbol

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 9:59 AM

Recently Chiranjeevi requested Election commission to remove "Rail Engine" symbol from the free symbols list to avoid confusion in people between new symbol "Sun" and the old symbol. PRP does not want people to see both new symbol and old symbols together on EVMs.

Praja Rajyam Party(PRP) wants to avoid the possible damage with thier old symbol in Tekkali election and also in Greater Hyderabad elections. Since "Rail Engine" is going to be in the free symbols list, there is a possibility for alloting it to any independent candidate. However Congress may not opt to give "Rail Engine" symbol to anyone as it will have some impact on votes split. It is a fact that votes split in 2009 general elections helped Congress to retain the power.

Let us see how this issue trouble PRP which is already in so many troubles.

Aircel, the popular mobile phone service provider, has roped in both of the actors for its endorsement. I will go to people again: Chiru

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 9:50 AM

HYDERABAD: On the first anniversary of the party’s founding, Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi resolved to re-dedicate himself to the task of taking the party’s line of ‘change and social justice’ effectively to the people by undertaking another round of road shows after conclusion of the Assembly session.

He went on an introspective note while addressing cadres after hoisting the party flag at the party office to mark low-key celebrations of the PRP’s first anniversary on Wednesday.

He admitted that despite the initial response to his public appearances and to his public contact programme ‘Praja Ankitha Yatras’, too many things had gone wrong.

Lack of a proper organisational set-up and the inability to handle the onslaught on the fledgling party by political opponents were the key reasons for the party’s dismal performance in the elections. This was despite the enthusiasm shown by lakhs of people across the State and even when the Praja Rajyam polled around 17 per cent of the total votes, he said.

Mr. Chiranjeevi described as “Operation Pralobh”, the attempt by the PRP’s main political opponents, the Congress and the Telugu Desam, to lure his party leaders into their fold.

Stating that this had hurt his party, he said it was now time to go to the people with a firm plan and not keep mulling over those who deserted the party.

“I am happy with those who are in the party now and I will go the people, for they are my real strength. It is a good augury that we have been allotted the symbol of full Sun with the rays”.

Referring to the Tekkali Assembly by-elections, he said the party would depute a team of senior leaders to campaign for its candidate.

“Success in the by-elections will prove to my political opponents that I am a force to reckon with,” he said. He said the party would go all out to perform well in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections.

Several senior leaders and MLAs, including P. Upendra K. Vidyadhara Rao, C. Ramachandraiah, Allu Aravind, K. Nagengra Babu were present when Mr. Chiranjeevi hoisted the party flag.

The party organised rallies and flag-hoisting functions in different parts of the State to mark the occasion.

I don’t believe in being a size zero: Shriya

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 9:48 AM

Shriya confesses that she’s thrilled that her Hollywood debut film Cooking With Stella has been selected for screening at the prestigious festival, among 300-odd entries from across the world. “I am very happy,” she says, gleefully. So has she planned a specific wardrobe for her global appearance? “Of course, I am discussing with a couple of designers to decide on the wardrobe for the three days of my stay. I am not sure whether I’ll wear a saree, but I’ll certainly walk the red carpet in an Indian outfit because I feel nothing can match the sheer grace and elegance of ethnic Indian wear,” she reasons.

Is she hoping her international venture will fetch her some global awards in the near future? “Not really. For me, being appreciated by the audience is the most important thing, everything else is secondary,” she avers. However, she is expecting her film to do “good business” in India.

Her recent Tamil-Telugu bilingual Mallanna has received mixed response for relying more on style than substance. “People are entitled to their opinions, but the film has opened to a tremendous first week collections which is good enough for us,” she points out. Again her sizzling scenes with Vikram has created quite a furore, but Shriya will have us believe that she’s not re-inventing herself as a hottie. “For me this film was just another character,” she retorts. Nor is she endorsing size zero contrary to popular misconception. “I have been misquoted about that. I don’t believe in being a size zero, nor do I prescribe it. For me a good body is a combination of peaceful mind, positive energy and physical exercise,” she says.

Length of a film matters a lot: G Dhananjayan

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 9:47 AM

Let me tell you, nobody can sit through a film if it is over two hours and 20 minutes, however good it is.”

Says producer G Dhananjayan, “In today’s world, length of a film matters a lot when it comes to retaining the audience’s interest. Audiences, who are used to watching big budget Hollywood films that run for a maximum of 100 to 115 minutes, are not prepared to watch any Indian film for more than 130 – 140 minutes, giving a concession for the songs in our films.”

According to Sekhar, trade analyst and mediator, “Pokkisham and Kanthaswamy, which recently hit the screens, have a screening time of 170 and 192 minutes respectively. Before release, the directors refused to trim them. But within 48 hours of their release, they reduced it by 20 to 25 minutes. However, by then, the word of mouth had already spread that the films were too long to sit through.”

A coup of sorts?

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 9:39 AM

Ileana, the svelte Goan girl, is the ‘numero uno’ heroine in Telugu films. Her recent big hit Kick opposite Ravi Teja is now being remade in Tamil as Thillalangadi with Jayam Ravi.

The director of the Tamil version — M Raja — tried his best to make her do the remake version too. However, the actress refused it. According to the grapevine, the reason for her refusal is because she had a miserable time doing her only Tamil film KD a few years ago.

The latest buzz in Kollywood is that Ileana may now do director Vikram Kumar’s (remember Yaavarum Nalam?) new film opposite Chiyaan Vikram titled 24 (Iruvathi Naalu).

If Ileana does the film (which will be shot by ace cameraman P C Sriram and have music composed by Harris Jayaraj), it will be a coup of sorts for actor Vikram. That’s because all our top heroes like Vijay, Ajith and even Rajinikanth (for his animation film Sultan) had approached the elusive Ileana, who had politely refused to do Tamil films.
