'Mahadheera' haunts Chennai!

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 9:13 PM

How will you feel if you get to watch a movie that blends modern technologies with a local flavor? Chranjeevi’s son Ram Charan Teja's second film ‘Mahadheera’ is that kind of a pic. ‘Mahadheera’ directed by S.S. Rajamouli and produced by Allu Aravind under the banner of Gita Arts went on to become a blockbuster in Andhra. The film is about rebirth of the lovers who lived before 400 years. Interesting right? And if we get to watch the remake version ‘Mahadheera’ in Tamil, wouldn’t that be something to wait for?

The hottest word of mouth is that, few days earlier our Superstar had watched ‘Mahadheera’ at Four Frames Theater and was delighted about it. He then called his close friend Chiru’s son Ram Charan Teja over the phone and heaped laurels immediately after the show.

We also heard that Kalaipuli Dhanu has bought the Tamil remake rights of ‘Mahadheera’ for a huge amount, and would start off with the project soon after the release of ‘Kandhasamy’. The latest news is that the film will be remade by the same team in Tamil, except for few small changes to suit Tamil audience.

For the people who wanted to see ‘Mahadheera’ in Tamil Nadu, it is turning out to be a flop show! Not even a singled pirated VCD is available in the market as the law enforcements are strict. Police officials from Andhra have camped in Chennai to prevent any supply of the pirated version with constant rides.

Wow… This is turning out to be something so unusually interesting now!

20,000 slots still vacant in H1B visas

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 9:12 PM

Washington: the H1B visa programme is unlikely to reach its cap of 65,000 before the start of the 2010 fiscal with nearly 20,000 slots lying vacant thanks to the tattered US economy.

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services said it has received approximately 49,000 H1B petitions till August seven counting toward the Congressionally-mandated 65,000 cap, more than four months after it started accepting applications for visas for the 2010 fiscal begining this October.

This is in contrast to the previous years when the USCIS had to resort to computerised draw of lots as it received petitions outnumbering several times more than the Congressional mandated cap of 65,000 within the first few days after it started receiving H-1B applications.

The figure of 20,000 slots in the vacant category has remained almost the same for the past two months. This is also due to a large number of rejections of H-1B petitions.

Indian IT professionals have been a major beneficiary of H-1B visas, figures released in the past have said.

For the fiscal 2010, the USCIS started receiving H-1B petitions from April 1. In the first five working days, it received 42,000 H-1B petitions. In the month and half since then, USCIS has received just 7,000 more H-1B petitions.

This is mainly attributed to the current economic crisis and the tougher measures being adopted by the USCIS and the State Department in sanctioning of H-1B visas.

While the minister was fascinated by the visual effects show, Srihari was seen paying attention to other technical details that go into filmmaking. Heroine says ' I am more fit for swimsuit'?

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 9:08 PM

She may be Bengali by birth, but Kamalini Mukherjee is one actress who always played the role of a homely Telugu ammayi to the tee. However, tired of the “sari-clad” roles she has been essaying, Kamalini is now all set to shed her “goody two shoes” image for an edgier, more glamorous look.

Blaming her typecast image on the role of the good girl she played in her debut Anand, Kamalini says, “My role in Anand has definitely given me great fame, but both the audience and the filmmakers have typecast me in that one character. It is a great responsibility and is also tiring to live up to that image of the character. Because of this role, I never got to play any glamorous roles. I have only played characters that don’t have negative shades. The few different films I have done like Bramhanandam Drama Company and some others either never saw the light of day or weren’t successful. I’m so bored of miss goody two shoes and I’m conscious about the roles I pick now.”

With a new perspective in place, the actress is ready to experiment with a new look too. Kamilini, who is all for “skin show” and “size zero” says, “It is nice to see that young actresses today are able carry themselves so well, be it in a saree or a swimsuit. I am ready to sport a glam look if the story demands it. Actors are a reflection of what’s happening in the world and you have to keep up with the trends today.”

With her Tollywood career too looking up, the actress who has a couple of films in her kitty insists that she won’t do any more blink-and-miss cameos, which she was getting famous for.
“I won’t do any more guest roles since I’m focussed on my upcoming films. But if my friend Shekar Kammula offers me a guest role, I can’t refuse. In his film Happy Days, I did a cameo as a lecturer as it was an integral part of the story. In my next movie Police Police, I am doing a cameo again, but my character marks the turning point in the film, says Kamalini.
In fact, critics claim that Kamalini’s scarcity of films is because she always stuck to the Shekhar Kammula camp. “I don’ t stay in Hyderabad and I am not aware of any camps in the industry. I only choose my films based on the role I will be playing and its importance in the story. I have refused many movie offers with big stars and directors because I didn’t like the role they offered me,” she defends.

When she is in Hyderabad, the actress hangs out with her “few” buddies from the industry. “Shekhar Kammula, Sumanth and Sharvanand are my good pals. I’m not an extrovert and I’m not seen out too often, I like to keep to myself,” she adds.

Chiranjeevi loved my performance: Kajal

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 8:54 PM

Her latest film, Magadheera, has drawn record collections within two weeks of its release .

And on day one, it was rumoured that tickets for the movie were being sold in black for Rs 10,000 in Hyderabad; for Rs 2,000 in places like Vizag and Rajahmundry, and in Bangalore, shows were booked for three days in advance.

“I never doubted the credibility and the success of the film ever since director Rajamouli narrated the script to me,” says Magadheera’s leading lady, Kajal Agarwal. The actress hasn’t had a single day off since the release of the film. “Other than attending the audio release and premiere in Hyderabad, I haven’t been able to be a part of the publicity drives of the film. But I’m glad I could meet Chiranjeevi gaaru because of Magadheera. He said he loved my performance after watching the premiere,” she gushes.

And Kajal credits the success of the film to its script — a period-cum-modern day love story — Rajamouli’s direction, the graphics, cinematography and sheer extravagance of the film. “Also, Charan is a fabulous actor and an awesome dancer. You can already see traces of his father in him,” says Kajal, full of praise for the Junior Mega Star.

The film, which deals with a story dating back to about 400 years, featured Kajal as princess Mitra in the first half, while she played a girl next door in the second half. “While playing the college-goer was easy, essaying a princess who’s haughty, yet loves her bodyguard dearly was challenging,” she says.

While certain portions, like a drum that stays intact and a painting that never fades during the course of 400 years seem far-fetched, Kajal terms it ‘cinematic liberty’. “I loved the emotional dynamics of the climax. The past life flashback, fighting the baddies and the reunion of lovers after four centuries — I loved all that drama,” she reasons.

But the scene isn’t as rosy when it comes to her Tamil film, Modhi Vilaiyadu (MV).”I’ve worked just as hard on this one as well. But I’ve realised that showbiz is all about overnight success and failure. Maybe as a team we haven’t been able to deliver what the audience wanted. And it’s not like MV’s failure has been compensated by the success of Magadheera,” she confesses.

While she’s the current toast of Tollywood, Kajal is also looking at branching out to other languages. “I’d love to do a Kannada film, too,” she says.

Genelia Special Interview

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 7:07 PM

It's been a while since Genelia wowed the nation as Aditi in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. But Genelia insists she is very much in action and has four releases lined up. Starting with the multistarrer comedy Life Partner where she is the centre of attention for all the men in the film.

Q: First and foremost – in real life, are you actually as bad a singer as your character in this film?

Genelia: Well, I don't think I am a very good singer.

Q: After solo hit like Jaane Tu…why did you take up a multistarrer comedy?

Genelia: I don't look at my movies like that. I really liked my character, Sanjana. She is a girl of today. But instead of being a confused one like Aditi (in Jaane Tu...) - Sanjana is a very confident person, always sure of herself. She knows the people who matter to her and is completely devoted to her family and boyfriend.

Q: You character is a romantic at heart, but doesn't believe in making compromises after marriage. Is that Genelia's philosophy too?

Genelia: Completely. I think a lot of young girls today are like that. Not making compromises isn't a negative thing. It's possible to have a stable family life, yet pursue your dreams.

Q: Sanjana is also someone who picks up a new hobby everyday. Do you feel the urge to take a break from acting?

Genelia: Never. See, Sanjana is an extremely rich girl who doesn't need to be on her own. So she keeps blowing up money on all sorts of things. I am middle-class girl with my values in place. So I understand the worth of my money.

Q: The promos are focusing a little more on you. Do you think you got a better deal than Prachi?

Genelia: It's just that one extra song where I am with the three heroes. Both Prachi and I were very secure about are parts in the film. So there was no question of any ego hassles.

Q: There is a song where Prachi and you reportedly pay a tribute to Dola Re Dola. So are you Madhuri or Ash?

Genelia: Oh God. I think both are so amazing, how can I choose?

Q: Most filmmakers cast you as the bubbly, girl-next-door. Would you ever see yourself play a negative character?

Genelia: I think I can play a negative character equally well. But all these bubbly characters you talk about are actually like the girls you meet in real life. And they all are unique. Aditi was single and confused while Sanjana is married. You can't call them same.

Q: Would you go in for a makeover, considering your colleagues are sporting biknis and doing bold scenes?

Genelia: I firmly believe, as long as it is justified you should go all out for your characters. I have no problems there. But then at this point of my career I really don't see the need to do something just to make an impact. I will never take professional decision just to make a splash.

Q: Are there any qualities of Fardeen that you would like in your Life Partner?

Genelia: In the film Fardeen plays a complete charmer. A true ladies man.

Q: And the real Fardeen?

Genelia: Well, he keeps telling me he is one in real life also.

Q: Finally arranged marriage or love marriage?

Genelia: I don't know. The obvious answer would be love marriage. But it could be arranged also. I can't say that arranged marriage is a no no. As long as it's the person you want to be with this aspect doesn't matter.

'Magadheera' into another controversy

Political plot behind Magadheera's ban

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 12:05 PM

District minister Botsa Satyanarayana had announced that the screening of the film will be stopped in Vizianagaram to conduct checks in the theaters for fire safety measures.

Now it is to think is there a political plot behind banning the screening of Magadheera film in Vizianagaram and plan to extend the ban to other areas?

Several leaders of the main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) suspect a political motive. According to TDP leaders, it is a deliberate move by the ruling Congress to revive and infuse some life into the dying Praja Rajyam Party (PRP). Though, strong measures were required to rectify the safety systems in theatres, taking a movie to task is strange and could be part of the game-plan, commented a senior TDP leader.

In the wake of reports that most of the senior leaders even from the north-coastal districts are trying to jump the fence from PRP, the decision to ban the film in particular area would surely rake up the tempers, a senior TDP leader said.
