I like challenges, says Chiranjeevi

Actor-turned-politician K. Chiranjeevi Saturday celebrated his 54th birthday and vowed to continue his mission to serve the people by keeping the flag of his Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) flying.

Chiru, as he is popularly known among his millions of fans, cut the cake with his family members and friends to celebrate the birthday, four days before the first anniversary of his political party’s founding.

“I like challenges, be it in the film world or in politics. Life has no thrill for me without challenges. I like to move ahead especially when somebody creates hurdles,” he said in an obvious reference to the stories in a section of media that the PRP was planning to merge with Andhra Pradesh’s ruling Congress party.

Rubbishing the talk of merger or of some PRP legislators joining other parties, the actor Thursday alleged that two Telugu dailies were misusing the press freedom to target him.

“Nobody can distance me from people. I came into politics to serve people and came closer to them. What more satisfaction I need in my life,” he said.

Chiru, who acted in 149 films in a career span over three decades, had launched the PRP at a massive public meeting at Tirupati Aug 26 last year.

However, his party bagged only 18 seats in 294-member assembly and drew a blank in the Lok Sabha elections, though it polled 17 percent votes.

Talking to reporters, Chiranjeevi said people and not media would decide the future of his party. He said it was unfortunate that a section of media was trying to rule politics.

The leader of the PRP in state assembly said the party would celebrate its first anniversary by unfurling the party flags across the state. Claiming that there was enthusiasm among party cadre, he told his supporters that good days were ahead for the party.

The PRP chief also cut a cake at his party office to celebrate the birthday. His fans and party workers also celebrated the day across the state by taking up various programmes like blood donation and poor feeding.

Chiranjeevi’s son and young actor Ramcharan Teja, brother and actor Pavan Kalyan, brother-in-law and PRP general secretary Allu Aravind greeted him on his birthday.

A hat-trick for Lakshmi

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 6:47 PM

The grapevine has it that Lakshmi Rai has moved lock, stock and barrel to Mumbai looking for Bollywood projects

Her link-up with Dhoni has not worked to her advantage and she has not been able to get any good offers in Mumbai. Meanwhile, the actress has become a top heroine in Kerala after this year’s blockbuster To Harihar Nagar, which released in summer.

The latest we hear is that the actress has been signed by director Shafi and producer Anto Joseph to be Mammootty’s heroine for his forthcoming action comedy Chattambinattil.

With this, the actress will finish her hat-trick with Mammootty, following the super hit Annan Thambi and the lukewarm Parunthu.
Shoot for Chattambinattil will start in Pollachi from September 9, and it’ll be Mammootty’s big Christmas release.

Deadly Dutt gets inked again

Yeah Dutt arrived from South Africa exactly two days ago and believe it or faint, reports say he actually drove to a tattoo studio in Bandra and spoke to Vishwas his permanent tattoo-specialist asking him to keep a sleeve design ready.

Dutt will in all likelihood wear a Samurai sleeve, in other words his tattoo which is being guarded fiercely by all those who work at Hakim Aalim’s salon. The design resembles something between out of Troy and Mughal-e-Azam. Dutt is so addicted to tattoos and he wears some of the best designs on his body.

In fact the last time Vishwas went all the way to Goa on the sets of All the Best as Dutt's guest for 10 days to discuss a tattoo. A unit hand says, “All of us from hairdressers to make-up men and light-boys got a tattoo done for free because the bade dilwala Sanjay had Vishwas on the set to discuss the tattoos of his parents names that he got done on his chest.”

After he gets his present tattoo Dutt will be the first Bollywood actor to wear the maximum number of tattoos and also the most exotic designs — many of which have been sketched by him personally.

Heroines Believe: Morya re!

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 6:44 PM

I strongly believe in the Almighty and I celebrate Ganesh Chathurthi in a big way, given that I always sought his blessings before beginning anyway in my life
However, we celebrate it in a traditional fashion and it is almost a family affair. However, in Mumbai, the festival mood is quite high and celebrations continue till the wee hours. Whenever I am in Mumbai, I visit the famous Siddhi Vinayak Temple and this year I’ll be celebrating the festival in Mumbai and I am looking forward to it,
-- Bumikha

Undeniably, it's quite special for me since I am a theist. Every year my cousins bring home Lord Ganesh to celebrate it for a couple of days. This year I have another big reason to celebrate in a grand manner as my film got an overwhelming response, giving my career a fillip. However, it's a family affair with lots of new clothes and sweets. Also a good occasion for meeting up with family and friends and we'll have a gala time.

-- Kaajal

My parents live in Mumbai and we have lots of fun celebrating this festival. For Mumbaikars it is quite a big festival and the whole city comes alive. We've been celebrating the festival for the last 21 years. It's a traditional event and also close friends and family get together. However, this time I am shooting at a far-off place near Chennai but I wish all a healthy and prosperous life.

--Tammana

This has always been a very special festival for me. Ganesh is also the god of prosperity and progress. This year, I am very happy with the success of my film and I'll be celebrating the festival in a big way. Festivals are a big excuse for big families like ours to be together. This is an occasion for us to meet up. I have a sweet tooth, so I'll probably be gorging on sweets but I need to restrict myself. However, I would like to pray for all my brethren.

She is known as the item queen of the Telugu circuit and at the same time she has been associated with some of the biggest chartbusters. She is none other than Mumaith Khan and right now she is making some news due to her presence in the latest release ‘Mallanna’.

Incidentally, Mumaith has got a spicy song in the film and she is actually playing herself in the film. There is a sequence wherein she says that her rate is Rs 30 lakhs for ‘spending time with an unknown man secretly’.

This has caught the audience who are now saying many things. Given Mumaith’s real time character, they are saying “Director Susi could have given Mumaith’s mobile number also now along with her price, that way he is hampering her business”. On the other hand, there are those who say that one has to be careful while doing real time characters in movies. Hope Mumaith is careful next time.

The whole world is harping about recession which seems to have affected our film industry as well. The producers are trying their best to cut costs and make movies with certain budget constraints.

However our heroes do not seem to be affected by what is going on and they are remuneration packages are sky high. Even our heroines are not left far behind.

According to sources actresses like Ileana, Anushka and Genelia charge more than a crore for their movies. Actresses like Trisha, Nayanthara and Hansika are not far behind. Wonder how the producers are going to address this issue and before that, how do they even manage to generate such sort of amounts.
