Dad, watch my film: Saif

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On Monday, August 24, 2009 at 7:38 PM

Love Aaj Kal is the most successful film of Saif Ali Khan’s career. But he still has one regret. He can’t get his father Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi to see it
My father rarely sees films,” says Saif. “The last film of mine that he saw and liked was Parineeta. He said I had done well in it ... and I was ecstatic.

However, despite all the hullabaloo surrounding his latest home-production, Saif hasn’t been able to tempt his father to visit a theatre in Delhi to catch a screening of it. “I know dad cares a lot about me,” says the actor.

If he doesn’t watch my films, it is only because he doesn’t like watching films per se. It is nothing personal.” Yet he admits that if his dad sends him even a word of appreciation, it means the world to him.

Tamil superstar Vikram has paid a tribute to her in his latest filmKanthaswamy by cross-dressing as Ash and performing to her numbers from Taal and Devdas.

One hears the audience in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh is so tickled by this particular sequence that there are seetis and claps galore.

Incidentally, Vikram is also acting with Aishwarya in the Tamil version of Mani Ratnam’s Raavan. And it is said that Southern superstar is a huge fan of Ms Rai’s. But then who isn’t?

I wish Selva all the best: Sonia (Special Intervie...

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 7:36 PM

Post her much-publicised split with ace director Selvaraghavan, the actress is in a zone in which decisions take time to be made and relationships take time to be understood. In an exclusive interview, Sonia reveals what went wrong with the script ...

How did things go sour?

I think we lacked basic understanding. It’s not something that’s new; trouble had been brewing for quite some time. We realised that our natures were opposite and as a result, things went for a toss. It’s not that we didn’t try to save the marriage. We did have a long chat about things, but it didn’t seem to work out and here I am.

Is the 7G Selva different from the Aayirathil Oruvan Selva?

Selva has changed since his 7G days, but then, that is quite natural. In fact, both of us come across as different people today. When I married Selva, I knew exactly what I was in for — he wasn’t the kind of person who would take me out to parties! I know he didn’t do that, and I was prepared for it. So, it was never a question of spending more time with each other.

Do you still talk to him?

Yes, we do talk occasionally on the phone. It’s going to be very different now as I have to see him as a friend and not as my husband. I wish him the best of luck for his future.
n Rumours have it that Andrea, Selva’s leading lady in his upcoming Ithu Malai Nerathu Mayaakam, is the cause for the split ... I don’t want to talk about Andrea.

Will you work with Selva again?
That entirely depends on our comfort level in the future. But, I’m waiting to watch Aayirathil Oruvan as much as anyone else. I know the amount of hard work that Selva’s put into the film and I’m sure it will pay off.

What are your future plans when it comes to work?
I’m still young and I’m sure that I’ll get a lot of work here. Some fans still ask me what my next project is and that’s heartening to hear. It means that they can still accept me as an actress.

Lessons learnt ...
Firstly, there needs to be trust. And secondly, an effort should be there from both the sides to save a marriage. Otherwise, it just goes kaput ...

All my bags are packed: Mamta

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 7:36 PM

Well, if rumours are to be believed, then the gorgeous girl has impressed hotshot director Imtiaz Ali with her stunning portfolio. After finding fame in smash hits like Jab We Met and Love Aaj Kal, Imtiaz is all set to direct another love story with Ranbir Kapoor in the lead and Mamta has been pencilled in as a possible candidate to play the heroine.

While the actress remained unavailable for comment, sources claim that she has refused to shoot for noted director Kamal’s film, which also features Dileep and Tamil actor Sathyaraj. Citing ‘severe fever’ and the flu as reasons, Mamta did not report to the sets of the shoot at Ooty. The question being asked in the Malayalam film industry now is, will Mamta quit south cinema, and prepare herself for Bollywood like Trisha, who has completely stopped signing new films?

A leading production manager from the Malayalam film industry, who is also close to the actress, confirmed, “She is indeed not feeling too well due to her hectic schedule and wants to take a break for a few weeks during which period she will not be shooting. And as far as Bollywood is concerned, like any other actress in the south, she is on the look out for a good role in a Hindi film.”

The demure heroine of Hariharan’s off-beat Malayalam film Mayookham (2005), turned glamorous with a vengeance in Lanka (2005), after her first three films bombed. Later, she tried to migrate to Kollywood with Vishal’s Sivapathigaram, which also bombed and she was labelled unlucky.

She moved to Tollywood and found fame as a singer due to her closeness to music director Devi Sri Prasad. Recently, she tried to make a comeback in a very glamorous role opposite Madhavan in Guru En Aalu, but the film failed. This has lent credence to rumours making the rounds that she is all set to migrate to Bollywood, as she is unhappy with the slow pace of her career as an actress down south.

Greeku Veerudu Turning 50

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 7:35 PM

Sigh!! The days of Nagarjuna, Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Balakrishna are getting over. None of the heroes' sons are as tall, good-looking like these heroes.

A veteran actress says, "Ippudu vocche heroes ni janaala meeda ruddhutunnaru. We have no choice. If their films flop they have the backing of the rich fathers to bounce back." That brings us to the pertinent topic..good-looking hero. Even people made aweful comments on Nagarjuna during his debut film but look at his career, he has turned as the most romantic hero after Shobhan Babu. College-going girls, women still go gaga on Nagarjuna. Every starlet's dream is to work with him. Heroines don't mind being linked with him.

The evergreen Nagarjuna is turning 50 this Saturday and he is throwing a birthday bash at his restaurant 'N' where who's who of the industry will be present to shower greetings/blessings on him. Advance greetings to the actor who has entertained us with a wide range of roles!!!

Fans crash Aishwarya's cell phone

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 7:35 PM

Fans of Bollywood actress Aishwarya Bachchan managed to crash her cell phone by sending her ‘get well soon’ messages. The actress said that as soon as some news channel broadcast the news of her having flu like symptoms her cell phone was bombarded with ‘get well soon’ messages from all over the country. The poor electronic gadget finally gave up and crashed under the pressure of incoming messages.

Aishwarya was infuriated at certain sections of the media who spread the gossip that she was having swine flu although she was down with common flu. This after Amitabh Bachchan had written in his blog that Aishwarya was down with flu like symptoms. The actress however said that as a precautionary measure she had all the tests done on her. Ash who is back in the sets thanked the media and her fans for their good wishes.

Vishal to romance three ladies

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 2:43 PM

Vishal needs a hit. The actor is obviously passionate about his work, which is obvious from the way he has maintained his looks as well as from the way he has improved in his acting since his debut. However, his movies, in spite of a dazzling cast and crew, have not really made that big a mark in the box office.

But the lukewarm response to his last two movies has in no way dampened his spirits. The actor is already preparing for his next movie, Theeradha Vilayatu Pillai, in which he will have three ladies to romance: Tanushree Dutta, Neetu Chandra and Sarah Jane. Tanushree and Sarah are winners of the Miss India title in recent years. We hear that the storyline is no ordinary run-of-the-mill predictable love story, where all three women are crazy about him but he picks just one. In fact, our hero falls in love with all three of them! But how? Triple act? Or do they each take up one phase of his life? It's going to be a long while before we know that! But we do hope he's picked a script wisely.

Rajini Kanth denied entry by Policeman?

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 10:24 AM

The South Indian Nadigar Sangam has been conducting stage dramas since August 15. And on the final day on Sunday, Nadigar Sangam president Sarath Kumar and Secretary Radha Ravi staged a play titled ‘Vetri Vetri Vetri’.

Superstar Rajinikanth took part in the final day function and also distributed mementoes to yesteryear actresses M N Rajyam and Anjali Devi. Speaking in the function Rajinikanth said that he was not punctual for the event since he considered it a family function.

He said that in the year 1979 the Nadigar Sangam building was inaugurated and M G R presided over the function. Rajini added that for this event policemen did not allow him inside the auditorium and after the intervention of some volunteers he was permitted inside, but had to watch the play ‘Ashoka Charavarthi’ played by Sivaji Ganesan standing in one corner of the hall.

Recalling his past experience on how he became an actor, Rajini said that he first started as a stage artist and then moved on to the film institute where he did a two year course in acting when director K Balachander spotted him and taught him how to act in front of the camera.

Pointing out that Nadigar Sangam has a massive 18-grounds land in T Nagar which has the potential to earn few lakhs per month, yet no initiative is being taken, Rajini compared this situation to selling coconuts on a golden plate.

The Superstar added that with Kalaignar’s rule they can always approach him and ask for help. The place can be developed and made to earn money, like building beautiful theatres. He also stated that people should not forget the services rendered by M G R, Sivaji, Vijayakanth, Sarath Kumar and Radha Ravi who played a great role in developing the Nadigar Sangam and also helped clear the debts.

Poonam Bajwa seems no exception. The actress has in the last one year retreated to Mumbai to get her basics right. She had hit the gym and has done everything right to look sexy.

Actresses taking a year’s sabbatical to emerge sexier seem to be the norm. Many actresses make an early dip into filmdom, as early as 13 or 14 and then they do films for 4-5 years and take a sabbatical to go back to basics and become mature and sexy.

Now she is emerging in a happy new avatar to impress her audience. She is meeting producers for more work.

Now, here is the dichotomy, Kandaswamy the films Tamil version has been praised to the sky by the Tamil critics where as the Telugu version as Malanna has been blasted by Telugu critics.

True to what the critics have said the film too is performing the same way, it is a hit in Tamil but an average cropper in Telugu.

New beginning for Prajarajyam

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 10:18 AM

In the last elections, PRP candidate Duvvada Srinivas lost the seat to Revathipathi by a few thousand votes. Srinivas said he had lost the elections narrowly because of cross voting in Parliament elections and this time, he would win the seat hands down as there was no sympathy wave for Revathipathi.

Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi is now determined to establish himself politically by building up his party firmly and he believes that winning the by-elections to Tekkali assembly seat is the best opportunity for it.

Chiranjeevi did not lose much time in capitalising on the situation; he rushed to Tekkali on Monday for the nomination of Srinivas and campaign for him. He said Tekkali bypoll would be a new beginning for the PRP to recoup its energies and emerge as a strong force. Best of luck, Chiru!

Don't come fishing for account details: Swiss Bank

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 10:18 AM

NEW DELHI: Swiss banks may have turned over client details to the US, but they have said India is not welcome there on a name-fishing expedition.

"Swiss law and even OECD's Model Tax Convention do not permit fishing expeditions, in other words, the indiscriminate trawling through bank accounts in the hope of finding something interesting."

"This means that India cannot simply throw its telephone book at Switzerland and ask if any of these people have a bank account here," a top official at Swiss Bankers Association said from Basel.

The secrecy shield provided by Swiss banks have always been a big issue in India, including during the campaign for this year's general elections, and the government recently said that it has approached Switzerland seeking details about bank accounts held by Indians there.

Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee recently informed Parliament that the government was committed to unearthing black money within and outside the country.

Allu Aravind Asked To Clear Pending Bills

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 10:15 AM

It's celebration time for moviegoers as Magadheera has raked in plenty of money and made everyone happy. PRP may be a major disaster but Allu Aravind, the producer of the film should be happy for the double dhamaka, for delivering two hit films Magadheera preceded by Ghajini. It would also make the others equally happy if the pending bills are cleared and restore the reputation that is at stake.

The Swiss agent/authorities share a cordial relationship with Indian filmmakers but if a certain section of them 'forget' to clear the bills, there will be a sure dent in the image of the Indian Travel Agents who have been dealing with shooting schedules abroad. It is allegedly reported that Ramcharan and the heroine's room bill and the transport ordered for the heroine by the hero on 8th of July has not been cleared. The Swiss agency has been waiting for 45 days for the payment and are furious at the delay caused by the producer.

Varun will be singing and dancing Kurralloi Kurrallu

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 10:14 AM

Teen sensation Varun Sandesh is gearing up for his next release soon. Varun will be singing and dancing Kurralloi Kurrallu, a remix song. This is actually taken from Andamaina Anubhavam, Balachander's musical made in 1978. learns that though people may think its a mass movie but its really a youth entertainer with emotions and the guy's love for his bike. This is music director Achu's second movie after 'Nenu Meeku Telusaa?'. Rachana Maurya does an item number (Mitrudu item girl) and Ravi Shankar is the villain. He is the same person whose voice became famous with Arundathi. Nacchavule villain is also acting in it. The song Kurralloi Kurrallu was a rage at that time with the accompaniment of MS viswanathan's music, SPB voice, Athreya's lyrics and ofcourse the lead pair bringing the story alive. Here, the lyrics is by Anantha Sriram. There is supposed to be another song between Neha Sharma and Varun that has a 31-second background music. Going by all these points one gets a feel, that Sandeep Gunnam is going to present a novel Maro Charitra that the current generation aspires for in a movie.

Chiru seeks probe into TTD scams

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 10:12 AM

HYDERABAD: Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi has demanded an inquiry by a sitting judge into the ``several irregularities which took place in the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam’’.

In a statement here today, he said that it was shocking to learn that ornaments of Sri Kodandarama Swami had been pawned by the priest of that temple in Tirupati and wanted a probe by the CB-CID into the episode. The incident had hurt the sentiments of the Hindus, he said.

The legislator from Tirupati said that devotees make offerings, sometimes the entire ornaments on their person, to the Lord, in the hope that their prayers would be answered.

Naturally they want that the offerings should go to the Lord, Chiranjeevi said and added that it was surprising to note the negligence on the part of the officials concerned in protecting the ornaments.

The PRP president alleged that the government and the TTD were in deep slumber even when the disappearance of gold dollars and other scams with regard to ornaments came to light. He alleged that several incidents of sacrilege took place on the sacred hills.

Raviteja Remuneration 5 Crores in rescission

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 10:11 AM

Ravi Teja wants to come up with yearly three movies and if possible four as well. However, he is said to be keen on being stable with his remuneration which is Rs 5 crores per film, irrespective of its performance at the box office.

So now that you can work out the math, Ravi is being hailed by many producers as a very energetic and hyperactive actor. Keeping the remuneration apart, it must be said that he has been able to develop enough caliber to shoulder the entire movie on his own. So guess it’s not a bad deal to have him come with 3-4 flicks per year.

TV Channel To Secure Black Money

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 10:09 AM

Like it or not, the truth remains that there is a lot of black money which is in India and those who have them try head over heels to protect it. Off late, the best approach for them is said to be the opening of a TV channel. It is heard that many of those having black money are working out on coming together and launching TV channels.

That way they can show losses and work some magic on their tax figures. While this would mean more opportunities in terms of jobs and creative programs, many say that this approach doesn’t really work in the long run. Well, only time will tell how much this theory would last but for now, the black money makers are keen on this.

17 PRP MLAs absent Chiru’s birthday

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 10:08 AM

Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi on Saturday said he would continue to strive for the people and ensure that the party’s message of change and social justice was communicated effectively.

He spent most of the morning and afternoon meeting people and acknowledging greetings on the occasion of his 55th birthday at his residence and the party office. Conspicuous by their absence were 17 legislators. Except K. Kanna Babu and Ganta Srinivas Rao, the others were not seen. Their absence was explained away by party leaders as being busy organising the birthday celebrations in their respective constituencies.

Talking to the media, Mr. Chiranjeevi said he would soon go to the people and expose the ‘hollowness’ of the promises made by the Congress and how it had failed to fulfil its pre-poll promises. This birthday, he said, was special for him because it was the first after his ‘arangetram’ in politics.

He expressed concern over the Congress government’s ‘callous’ attitude towards the rural masses who were suffering from the impact of drought. When there were so many issues that needed urgent attention of the government, he regretted that the powers-that-be were still playing politics and furthering their own ‘individual’ interests. On the other hand, the Opposition too had failed to pile on pressure, he added.

QuickgunMurugan Sequel: The Good The Bad and the Idli

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 10:08 AM

The film character, Quickgun Murugan has already generated a huge fan following for his outlandish look and relatable personality. But in the entertainment business, it’s never enough and Fox Pictures and director of the film, Shashank Ghosh, are now planning to come out with a “comic strip” based on the film.
The characters of the film, Quickgun Murugan, Mango Dolly and Rice Plate Reddy — will be presented in a comic strip format and will speak about relevant issues like eve-teasing, the recession, reality shows and even about the hike in electricity charges. The comic strips will be put up as posters across the city. Shashank says, “All the characters in the film are larger than life. It is about their environment, their interpersonal relationships and humour.
A simple poster would not do justice to it. So when you see the posters, you get a feel and sense of the quirkiness. We don’t have famous faces but we do have famous characters.”
Surprisingly, Quickgun was originally created in the comic book format. “It started way back in 1994, when we used it on Channel V. In 2004, we titled the whole episode as Mind It. Quickgun was all over the place then,” adds Shashank.
The sambar cowboy, as Quickgun is described, is actually based on Clint Eastwood. “I decided to make him the Indian cowboy with a Clint Eastwood kind of wooden look. He keeps a very straight face when he is at work and we decided to base Quickgun on those styles,” says the director.
Even though our own Indian cowboy has a western cowboy look, he’s as Indian as it gets and his look is inspired by the movies in the South.
The producers have already announced a sequel to the movie titled The Good The Bad and the Idli. What remains to be seen is if
the director will carry the comic book series in the sequel as well.

Genelia has given many award winning performances and she’s an established name in Kollywood and Tollywood. “I enjoy acting and it doesn’t matter whether I am doing a Bollywood flick or a South Indian one,” says the actor. Does Genelia intend to act in Hollywood and is she ready to do cameos? “If it’s worth playing such roles, definitely I will do it,” says Genelia. “I have always given importance to scripts but now it’s like a complete meal which includes director, producers, co-stars et al.”

The pressure of stardom is yet to affect this young bubbly actor. Genelia “prefers to take rest if I am not working”. Style and the glamour world go hand in hand. So what’s her take on fashion? “I am a very casual person,” she says. For the world outside, she’s a cool person. But what makes her go red? “Pretentious people and people who take away credit for others’ work really put me off,” says the actress.

Success and a hectic lifestyle don’t stop her from doing what a girl of her age does. “I do all the normal things like any girl of my age would be doing. I don’t restrict myself from doing anything — be it walking on the roads, going to public places or having a blast with my friends,” says Genelia.

So has she found her prince charming? “Right now I don’t have any special person in my life. It’s not that I want to concentrate only on my career so I am avoiding getting into a relationship. But I believe if it had to happen it will happen someday."

Genelia believes in living life to the fullest. “I take life positively. I am also very energetic”. Her happy go lucky girl image has won her many fans. “The image of a chulbuli girl goes with me but I am sure of myself. I know what to do and what not to do,” she says with a note of finality.

"Get the Rs. 25 lakh crore slush money stashed outside India and re-distribute to the country's needy, Robinhood style." This is a line from BJP manifesto that probably might have inspired journalist-turned-filmmaker Susi Ganesan to make Mallanna. Almost two years in making, with plenty of money spent, that is visible on screen.

But Vikram had earlier spoken to CineGoer.com and said this was not the best film from him. But has the director trimmed the film? The runtime is a marathon running over three hours. The adventure, the frills is not whipping up any thrill.

Sambho Siva Sambho on screens in November

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 10:00 AM
