Hyderabad: Dowry scourge claimed the life of a 28-year-old software engineer hours before her marriage, in Boduppal in the city late on Friday night.

The engineer, G Vijaya Lakshmi’s marriage was scheduled to be held with a South Korea-based engineer Y Chakradhar on Saturday morning at a function hall in Boduppal. However, the bride committed suicide as her parents were unable to meet the dowry demand of the groom.

Vijaya Lakshmi chose Chakradhar, a native of Jagityal of Karimnagar district, through an online matrimonial website and their engagement was solemnised on August 8. Parents of both attended the engagement, Uppal inspector of police B Bhaskar inspector said.

At that time of engagement, Vijaya Lakshmi’s parents gave Rs one lakh as dowry to Chakradhar and decided to perform the marriage on August 15 in Boduppal.

Meanwhile, Chakradhar demanded that Vijaya Lakshmi’s parents pay Rs 10 lakh additional dowry. He also warned the girl’s parents that the marriage might be cancelled in case they did not pay the amount, the inspector said.

Stunned by the demand, the girl’s parents began negotiations with Chakradhar and told him that they were not in a position to give Rs 10 lakh dowry. The girl’s father G Balaraju is a tailor. On August 14, the girl’s parents also contacted Chakradhar and his parents and tried to convince them. But, he again put forth his dowry demand, the inspector said.

Perturbed over the developments, Vijaya Lakshmi committed suicide by hanging from an iron rod of an overhead water tank located on the apartment terrace. Her parents who found her daughter hanging by her chunni shifted her to hospital, but she was already dead, the police officer said.

The girl’s father lodged a complaint with the Uppal police station on Saturday. A case was registered against Chakradhar and his parents under Section 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act and another case under Section 306 (abetting the commission of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). A police team has been sent to arrest Chakradhar, the inspector said

Poonam Bajwa - "I Haven't Left Telugu Films"

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 8:55 PM

"It's just that I have got selective with movies, I haven't left Telugu films at all," says the cute Poonam Bajwa. Her last film in Telugu Veduka sank without a trace after which she shifted base to Chennai. She then did a film with Jeeva (Thenaavettu) which was a hit and then with Bharat (Seval) which fetched her a lot of visibility and rave reviews. In Kacheri Aarambam she is a modern and also a traditional girl, a good mix of both.

In a chat with CineGoer.com, Poonam says she's doing Drohi starting next month. Drohi has two heroes Srikanth and Vishnu, she's starring opposite Vishnu and her role has dual shades. Reiterating her commitment for good films, the actress says she doesn't want to be a mere prop in a film, and has refused 25 Tamil films recently. So has she adapted to the sarees and jewellery in Chennai. You bet says the actress I have even worn a nine yard saree that resembles a dhoti. Half-sarees, sarees plenty!!!

Madhu's Rollercoaster Ride

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 8:52 PM

Madhu sits with his friend sharing a drink at Suresh Guest house. He works there as an office boy and happy good soul. A couple of years back he was facing the camera as a hero. Suresh Babu gifted him a bunch of flowers, wished him all the best and told him if he is successful in completing the film, he'd surely become a hero. He even went to the KBR Park in Suresh's car, walked with him.

Madhu gathered a huge amount and launched his film and Bharat Parepally was his director at Ramanaidu Studio. JD Chekri was one of the characters and he was paid one and a half lakh as an advance. Thanks to Bharat's mismangement, Madhu is back as an office boy. The film was shelved midway, the hero fell in a financial mess, loans, etc. Suresh Babu came to his rescue, cleared his loans. The guy's smile who is sharing a drink with this could have been hero, his sweeping look from top to bottom at Madhu says it all.

Forgot to mention a much respected journalist who promised the hero coverage hoodwinked him and pocketed 80 thousand for media management and publicity. Real story this!

Vamshi Paidipally - "NTR's Dance Was Amazing"

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 8:52 PM

This is my second film as a director," says Vamshi Paidipally. His first film was Munna with Prabhas.

"This film is coming a bit late after Munna but I have developed this story just two months back and everything happened in quick succession. While I was doing Munna I couldn't even think of a family subject like this, this will be add a new dimension to NTR's career. Not that this has a fresh story, but the very presence of NTR."

"I've been in this field for six years now, worked as an associate for four movies. Started off my career with Eeshwar in Jayant's direction, Varsham with Sobhan and MS Raju, Mass with Nagarjuna and Lawrence, Bhadra for Dil Raju."

"When I thought of doing something to NTR, I was wondering what new I can offer him. I was tense, but soon after the narration he said we are going for it."
The way he has come back after the accident has taught me a lot. I've learnt a lot from him. He just did a song for Vinayak after five months of serious injury. The way he danced, will put all the rumours of his injury to rest. Fought. He is back with a bang, only you've got to see him."

"Two new girls will be the heroines, just like Krishna had Radha and Satyabhama. Srihari, Brahmanandam, Suneel will provide the comedy. There is lot of fun, emotion, action..a top-line hero in a contemporary social story running in a village backdrop is bound to raise curiosity. NTR is my trump card. Without Dil Raju's support Brindaavanam wouldn't have been possible. Every film for a director is a challenge these days, none can relax, every film we have to prove ourselves."

Srihari celebrated his 46th birthday today (August 15, 2009) with style. Riding high on the success of Magadheera in which he played two crucial roles - as an king Share Khan in era and as Solomon Raju in another incarnation, he celebrated with fans and well-wishers from the industry. Producer Allu Aravind came down to his residence and wished him and also informed him that he would be adding the chopped up scenes of Srihari very soon.

Right from the beginning of the film’s shoot, Srihari started canvassing for the film. He did publicity more than us. He played key role in the film’s success but we some how did unjustice to him by chopping up some scenes he has enacted in the second half. The decision was taken after seeing the entire film,” Allu Aravind said. “ I am glad to announce that we will be adding those deleted scenes after 50 days of the run of the movie. You will see more of Solomon Raju’s comedy after 50days,” he added.

Vimala Raman got all the criticism for her simple looks in Evaraina Epudaiana. Probably that is why she has decided to go for complete makeover. Buzz is that in V N Aditya’s current film with Tarun as hero, she will be appearing in sexy avatar. She will also appear in two-piece bikini suit in this film which had completed its shooting part almost 80 percent. The film had its major shoot in Bangkok.

Vimala Raman not only appears in bikini in the flick, she will also appear in more revealing clothes to entice the youth audience. Will this movie put her career on right track?

Ravi Teja’s Time Is Gold Now

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 6:35 PM

He is known as the crazy mass masala hero of the Telugu cinema but then there were times when he has also shown his levels of maturity with movies like ‘Naa Autograph’, ‘Itlu Sravani Subramaniam’ and others. He is none other than Ravi Teja and right now he seems to be riding high with the wave of success. Apparently, Ravi Teja happens to be one of those real life examples of self made men and actors. Having started as a daily wage artiste, today he has grown to be one of the most bankable stars and given his exposure with ground reality, Ravi has got a level headed approach towards many things. Now, the industry experts are saying that Ravi is going through a golden phase and though his recent stint like ‘Neninthe’ bombed miserably, he made a bang comeback with the blockbuster hit ‘Kick’ and now he has delivered yet another success with his latest offering ‘Anjaneyulu’.

Ravi has got his own trademark body language and dialogue delivery which makes him a darling of the masses. Let us hope he continues to deliver hits like this and entertains his fans in the years to come.

I’m getting married? When?

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 6:32 PM

A section of the media had reported that the Manmadha Rasa girl too was to tie the knot with a Hyderabad-based hardware trader. The reports had claimed that her parents were busy making arrangements for the big wedding.
However, when we contacted Chaya Singh, she asked, “I’m getting married? When? I didn’t know that! Who’s the guy? What’s he doing? It’s news to me.”

She further continued, “I’m right now busy judging a reality show for kids for a Kannada channel. I have also signed up a movie
in Malayalam and a couple more in Bengali. There’s no time for marriage.”

So, is marriage not on her priority list now? “No yaar,” she said, “I have a lot to achieve in this industry. I have to complete my assignments — I have Ananthapuratthu Veedu and two more movies in the south. Marriage is definitely not on the cards for now.”
And as predicted by the reports, will hers be an arranged marriage? “I’m sure my parents will take care of it. I’m just waiting for the right person to walk into my life,” she smiled.

So, what’s happening to her directorial debut, Gandhi Bazaar? “To be honest, it has taken a backseat. Film industry seems to have been hit by recession and I’m not finding producers for my film,” she signed off.

I want my market value: PriyaMani

Posted by SRINU GUNTURU | | Posted On at 6:32 PM

The Bangalorean lass now has a Mani Ratnam film, which she has pinned her hopes on — “No, I’m not playing Surpanaka in it” — a biggie Telugu film titled Pravarkyudu — “It’s a performance-oriented role” — and Raam with namma Appu. “Until now, I had my doubts about doing a Kannada film because the market for it is restricted to Karnataka, unlike other regional films. But an offer opposite Puneet Rajkumar in a film directed by Madesh of Gaja fame was like a perfect launch vehicle in Kannada,” says Priya Mani.

And she has no regrets that her talent has only found a mention in the media and among critics in recent times. “It’s taken me five years to get here. It’s only after Paruthi Veeran that people started noticing my acting skills. So, I’m happy I found fame after much struggle rather than becoming a superstar in my first film,” explains the actress.

The awards and acclaim that have come her way, she says, have only made her resolve of taking up substantial roles stronger. So, no more bikini acts? “I wore the bikini in Drona for fun. Besides, after Nayanthara in Billa, there was this notion that no other actress would be willing to wear a bikini. But my director felt I’d look good in it. I too was convinced and felt wearing a bikini would be a change from my usual image. It drew its share of reviews — both good and not-so-good ones. I also haven’t got any new offers to wear a bikini,” says a candid Priya.

A bikini act and a kitty full of awards. Will she now hike her price? “There’s nothing wrong in hiking my price. I’ve delivered three consecutive hits, so I think it’s justified. And tell me which actress doesn’t hike her price these days? And I’m only asking for my market value — pay me my price and I’ll do your film,” she asserts.
