Post Arundhati, a slew of horror films got released to cash in on the success of the genre.
Likewise, the huge success of Magadheera, seems to have inspired Tollywood bigwigs to plan some historicals this season.
Reportedly, ace director Gunasekar who is known for big budget extravaganzas like Okkadu and Arjun seems to have realised that it’s the right time to revive his pet project Rudramma Devi. He has already done a lot of research and readied a script on the famed warrior princess of Rayalaseema. It is learnt that he has approached Jr NTR to play the ‘all powerful role’ of Gona Ganna Reddy, in his magnum opus. The director maintains that ‘it is his dream project’ and hopes that it will take shape this season.
Another big-budget film maker M S Raju has roped in veteran director Kodi Ramakrishna to churn out a ‘visual-extravaganza’ titled Chandi. He has reportedly approached Anushka to play the author-backed role and had seriously considered Nayanthara for the same before. “We haven’t signed the female lead yet, I’ll let you know in a couple of days,” says the producer, who says this film is a graphic-ridden entertainer. Even cinematographer-turned-director Rasool has done rigorous research and gathered enough material to make a 300 kind of film.
Difficult to say whether the audiences’ preference is ruling the roost or film makers are altering viewer’s tastes. But one thing’s clear — nothing succeeds like success!
