HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam party has challenged Chief Minister K. Rosaiah to visit tribal and other areas to see for himself how diseases are taking a heavy toll on the people.
Addressing a press conference, TDP leaders -- K. Yerran Naidu and G. Muddukrishnama Naidu -- said Mr. Rosaiah’s visit to these areas would show that his praise of Arogyasri and his comment that the State was number one in health were hollow.
They wondered if Mr. Rosaiah’s claim was true then so many people would not have died from diseases like swine flu, dengue and typhoid during the last few weeks. They wanted the government to publish a white paper on Arogyasri, giving details of the quantum of amount that has gone to the corporate hospitals. Statistics show that only 1. 5 lakh people have benefited so far from a population of over eight crores. How could it be termed as ideal scheme? They wanted the government to depute all-party teams to visit the areas where people were affected by these diseases. They repeated their charge that the Ministers were spending more time with former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s close aide, K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao and his son, Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, than in attending to their duties.
At a separate press conference, two other leaders, Umareddy Venkateswarlu and Kadiam Srihari said the party would stage dharnas in all district headquarters on September 25, protesting against the GOs constituting Indiramma committees to oversee NREGA. Demanding the withdrawal of the GOs they said these were undermining the powers of the elected representatives.
Meanwhile party sources said an elaborate exercise has begun to recast the Polti Bureau and the State Committee.
