Tollywood Heroes scared about choppers now

After the chopper crash in which former chief minister Y S Rajashekhara Reddy was killed on September 2, Telugu film producers, have become wary of hiring helicopters just for the sake of making the scene look `rich'.

A leading hero shooting for a film has bluntly asked the director to change a scene in which a helicopter was to be used. "The requestwas unusual because heroes generally would like to be seen getting into a helicopter or coming down in a film. The shocking incident in which YSR was killed has had an effect on everyone," a producer said.

Practically all big budget films in which some of the highest paid heroes act have at least one scene in which a helicopter is shown which only boosts the hero's image.

While producers like Aswani Dutt are now being extra cautious about the use of a helicopter, the Telugu Film Producers Council's joint secretary Natti Kumar told TOI that a general body meeting of the producers would be held soon in which producers would be asked to take the necessary precautions, if using the helicopter was a must.

"We in the film industry have got used to a helicopter being hired for films but if the chief minister's chopper itself crashed, we have been shaken out of our slumber to ensure that more precautions are taken," Natti Kumar said.

Tollywood's heroes cannot do with a helicopter at least hovering in the background. Prabhas made a grand entry in `Billa' emerging out of a helicopter and even Nitin tried to create an impact in a helicopter chase in `Drona'.

Chiranjeevi's `Indra', Balakrishna's `Seema Simham' and just about every other film in which a big hero acts, has a helicopter.

Another producer Tammareddy Bharadwaja pointed out that most often it is the cameramen who are at risk as it is they who have to travel in a helicopter to take aerial shots.
