Namitha is on an all time low. Her career in Kollywood is going nowhere as younger oomph girls are proving to be stiff competition. Her last four releases in Tamil, including Indira Vizha, on which she was betting big, sank without a trace at the box office. This has led to the trade doubting her capabilities to deliver a hit.
Her eagerly awaited remake of yesteryear Jaganmohini, said to be her comeback venture with state-of-the-art special effects and graphics and which was due for release in the last week of September, has now been postponed to Deepavali. Meanwhile, coming as a blast from the past, one of her early Telugu films Nayakudu, is now being dubbed into Tamil as Idhu Dhanda Sattam!
According to a source close to Namitha, “The film is a bit crude, but Namitha can do little to stop its release in Tamil. Her only hope now is that it does not release before Jaganmohini which is going to be a major break for her.” In fact, Namitha is pinning all hopes on Jaganmohini, a remake of the 1978 film starring Jayamalini, which was a huge hit all over south India. The modern version directed by NK Viswanathan with music of Ilayaraja has stunning special effects and graphics.
Remember? Anushka’s special effects film on witchcraft and sorcery, Arundathi, was a huge hit all over south. Now, the question being asked is whether Namitha can transform herself from being a sex symbol to a glam heroine with Jaganmohini.
Trade sources feel that if this film releases before Jaganmohini, it may affect Namitha’s comeback negatively.
