An American satellite first spotted the site where the helicopter carrying late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had crashed in the Nallamala forest, authoritative sources said.

The US satellite identified the site based on the missing cordinates provided by the BSNL, they said.
The US satellite imagery, that contained more than 12,000 pictures, was thoroughly analysed by the authorities in the US and the analysis was passed on to only top officials of the state administration.
"Six images clearly showed gaping holes in the clouds over the Pavuralagutta area where the helicopter had crashed. The search operation was initially spread over a 60 sq km area and later cut down to 20 sq km based on the US data. Ulitimately, the search was narrowed down to five sq km", the sources said.
