Jagan likely to get Cabinet berth

The clamour for the deceased Andhra Pradesh leader Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's son to be made the state chief minister seems to be having an adverse impact on the image of the young MP from Kadapa.
K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, a close friend and advisor of YSR, was scheduled to meet the Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi yesterday to discuss the demand for installing Jaganmohan Reddy, 37, as the new chief minister.
But indications are mounting that the party high command's annoyance with pro-Jagan group has reached its peak.
Despite widespread lobbying by Jagan's supporters, indications were rife that the high command was in no mood to oblige them and wants to use the opportunity to re-establish its authority over Andhra Pradesh, which was eroded in the towering presence of YSR during last five years.
In fact, one of the anti-Jagan and anti-YSR groups has reportedly told Gandhi that if she lets go this opportunity to demonstrate her supremacy, she may as well forget running her writ in such a key state.
Party sources said that three senior-most leaders of the party Pranab Mukherjee, Veerappa Moily and Digvijay Singh are likely to arrive here to hold consultations with the leaders of various groups as well as legislators.
There are indications that the party high command was seriously looking at other alternatives including retaining the caretaker Chief Minister K. Rosaiah for a longer duration.
Sources said young age and lack of political experience were the main factors going against Jagan. "He is just 100 days old in politics," said a leader pointing out that YSR's son was elected to Parliament for the first time in May last.
Sources said that the Congress team from Delhi was mandated to persuade Jagan not to insist on chief ministerial position but accept a position in the union cabinet. They were also expected to convince Jagan to propose the name of a leader identified by the high command when the Congress legislature party meets. Rosaiah, for his rich and varied experience and clean image is likely to be the first choice of the high command and was likely to be more acceptable to Jagan group than any other leader.
