Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi on Saturday said he would continue to strive for the people and ensure that the party’s message of change and social justice was communicated effectively.
He spent most of the morning and afternoon meeting people and acknowledging greetings on the occasion of his 55th birthday at his residence and the party office. Conspicuous by their absence were 17 legislators. Except K. Kanna Babu and Ganta Srinivas Rao, the others were not seen. Their absence was explained away by party leaders as being busy organising the birthday celebrations in their respective constituencies.
Talking to the media, Mr. Chiranjeevi said he would soon go to the people and expose the ‘hollowness’ of the promises made by the Congress and how it had failed to fulfil its pre-poll promises. This birthday, he said, was special for him because it was the first after his ‘arangetram’ in politics.
He expressed concern over the Congress government’s ‘callous’ attitude towards the rural masses who were suffering from the impact of drought. When there were so many issues that needed urgent attention of the government, he regretted that the powers-that-be were still playing politics and furthering their own ‘individual’ interests. On the other hand, the Opposition too had failed to pile on pressure, he added.
