The film character, Quickgun Murugan has already generated a huge fan following for his outlandish look and relatable personality. But in the entertainment business, it’s never enough and Fox Pictures and director of the film, Shashank Ghosh, are now planning to come out with a “comic strip” based on the film.
The characters of the film, Quickgun Murugan, Mango Dolly and Rice Plate Reddy — will be presented in a comic strip format and will speak about relevant issues like eve-teasing, the recession, reality shows and even about the hike in electricity charges. The comic strips will be put up as posters across the city. Shashank says, “All the characters in the film are larger than life. It is about their environment, their interpersonal relationships and humour.
A simple poster would not do justice to it. So when you see the posters, you get a feel and sense of the quirkiness. We don’t have famous faces but we do have famous characters.”
Surprisingly, Quickgun was originally created in the comic book format. “It started way back in 1994, when we used it on Channel V. In 2004, we titled the whole episode as Mind It. Quickgun was all over the place then,” adds Shashank.
The sambar cowboy, as Quickgun is described, is actually based on Clint Eastwood. “I decided to make him the Indian cowboy with a Clint Eastwood kind of wooden look. He keeps a very straight face when he is at work and we decided to base Quickgun on those styles,” says the director.
Even though our own Indian cowboy has a western cowboy look, he’s as Indian as it gets and his look is inspired by the movies in the South.
The producers have already announced a sequel to the movie titled The Good The Bad and the Idli. What remains to be seen is if
the director will carry the comic book series in the sequel as well.
