HYDERABAD: Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi has demanded an inquiry by a sitting judge into the ``several irregularities which took place in the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam’’.

In a statement here today, he said that it was shocking to learn that ornaments of Sri Kodandarama Swami had been pawned by the priest of that temple in Tirupati and wanted a probe by the CB-CID into the episode. The incident had hurt the sentiments of the Hindus, he said.

The legislator from Tirupati said that devotees make offerings, sometimes the entire ornaments on their person, to the Lord, in the hope that their prayers would be answered.

Naturally they want that the offerings should go to the Lord, Chiranjeevi said and added that it was surprising to note the negligence on the part of the officials concerned in protecting the ornaments.

The PRP president alleged that the government and the TTD were in deep slumber even when the disappearance of gold dollars and other scams with regard to ornaments came to light. He alleged that several incidents of sacrilege took place on the sacred hills.
