Lord Ganesh Laddu (sweet ball) was knocked down at a fantastic price of Rs 5,10,116 in an auction on Friday at Dachavaram village in Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh.

The auction went on for 3 hours and the first bid itself was a whopping Rs 1 lakh but even that was soon bettered.

C Koteswara Rao, who had been the highest bidder for the last 3 years, offered Rs 3,99,000. But a rival bidder Ramana Reddi sprang a surprise by raising the bid to Rs 5,10,116. The hammer fell and Ramana Reddi was declared the successful bidder.

The 10-Kg laddu was offered by DV Koti Reddi to Lord Ganesh at the beginning of the Navaratri festival. On the conclusion of the festival on Friday, the laddu was put to auction as is the custom.

The amount realised from the auction will be invested in a long-term deposit in a bank and the interest utilised for the improvement of Lord Ganesh Temple in Dechavaram Village.
